Gaines to take order. Attack of Fort Erie - Preparations: Accepting a protective situation at Fort Erie, American powers attempted to improve its fortifications.â As the fortress was too little to even think about holding Gaines order, an earthen divider was stretched out south from the post to Snake Hill where a gunnery battery was emplaced.â To the north, a divider was worked from the upper east bastion to the shore of Lake Erie.â This new line was secured by a weapon emplacement named the Douglass Battery for its authority Lieutenant David Douglass.â To make the earthworks progressively hard to penetrate, abatis were mounted along their front.â Improvements, for example, the development of strong houses, proceeded all through the attack. Attack of Fort Erie - Preliminaries: Moving south, Lieutenant General Gordon Drummond arrived at the region of Fort Erie in early August.â Possessing around 3,000 men, he dispatched an assaulting power over the stream on August 3 with the expectation of catching or devastating American supplies.â This exertion was blocked and spurned by a unit of the first US Rifle Regiment drove by Major Lodowick Morgan.â Moving into camp, Drummond initiated fabricating big guns emplacements to barrage the fort.â On August 12, British mariners mounted an unexpected little vessel assault and caught the American clippers USS Ohio and USS Somers, the last being a veteran of the Battle of Lake Erie.â The following day, Drummond started his siege of Fort Erie.â Though he had a couple of substantial weapons, his batteries were sited excessively far from the strongholds dividers and their shoot demonstrated insufficient. Attack of Fort Erie - Drummond Attacks: In spite of the disappointment of his weapons to enter Fort Eries dividers, Drummond pushed ahead with arranging an ambush for the evening of August 15/16.â This called for Lieutenant Colonel Victor Fischer to hit Snake Hill with 1,300 men and Colonel Hercules Scott to ambush the Douglass Battery with around 700.â After these segments pushed ahead and attracted the protectors toward the northern and southern finishes of the barriers, Lieutenant Colonel William Drummond would progress 360 men against the American place with the objective of taking the first piece of the fort.â Though the senior Drummond planned to accomplish shock, Gaines was immediately made aware of the approaching assault as the Americans could see his soldiers getting ready and moving during the day. Moving against Snake Hill that night, Fischers men were spotted by an American picket who sounded the alert.â Charging forward, his men more than once assaulted the territory around Snake Hill.â Each time they were tossed back by Ripleys men and the battery which was instructed by Captain Nathaniel Towson.â Scotts assault in the north met a comparable fate.â Though stowing away in a gorge for a significant part of the day, his men were viewed as they drew nearer and went under substantial big guns and black powder rifle fire.â Only in the middle did the British have any level of success.â Approaching subtly, William Drummonds men overpowered the safeguards in the fortresses upper east bastion.â An exceptional battle ejected which possibly finished when a magazine in the bastion detonated killing a considerable lot of the aggressors.  Attack of Fort Erie - Stalemate: Having been bloodily spurned and having lost almost 33% of his order in the ambush, Drummond continued the attack of the fort.â As August advanced, his military was fortified by theâ 6th and 82nd Regiments of Foot which had seen administration with the Duke of Wellington during the Napoleonic Wars.â On the 29th, a fortunate shot hit and injured Gaines.â Departing the fortress, order moved to the less undaunted Ripley.â Concerned about Ripley holding the post, Brown came back to the stronghold in spite of having not completely recouped from his injuries.â Taking a forceful stance, Brown dispatched a power to assault Battery No. 2 in the British lines on September 4.â Striking Drummonds men, the battling kept going around six hours until downpour carried it to a stop. After thirteen days, Brown again sortied from the fortress as the British had built a battery (No. 3) that imperiled the American defenses.â Capturing that battery and Battery No. 2, the Americans were at long last constrained to pull back by Drummonds reserves.â While the batteries were not devastated, a few of the British weapons were spiked.â Though to a great extent effective, the American assault demonstrated pointless as Drummond had just made plans to sever the siege.â Informing his boss, Lieutenant General Sir George Prevost, of his aims, he legitimized his activities by refering to an absence of men and hardware just as the poor weather.â the evening of September 21, the British withdrew and moved north to build up a cautious line behind the Chippawa River. Attack of Fort Erie - Aftermath: The Siege of Fort Erie saw Drummond continue 283 murdered, 508 injured, 748 caught, and 12 missing while the American battalion caused 213 slaughtered, 565 injured, 240 caught, and 57 missing.â Further fortifying his order, Brown thought about hostile activity against the new British position.â This was before long blocked by the starting of the 112-weapon boat of the line HMS St. Lawrence which gave maritime strength on Lake Ontario to the British.â As it is hard to move supplies to the Niagara front without control of the lake, Brown scattered his men to guarded positions.â On November 5, Major General George Izard, who was telling at Fort Erie, requested the stronghold wrecked and pulled back his men into winter quarters in New York.â Chosen Sources Attack of Fort Erie, War of 1812Niagara Parks: Old Fort ErieHistoryNet: A Bloody Stalemate at Fort Erie

Whats the Average APR for a Cash Advance

Whats the Average APR for a Cash Advance Whats the Average APR for a Cash Advance? Whats the Average APR for a Cash Advance? The APRs for credit card cash advances  are high, but the APRs for payday cash advance loans  are so much higher. If you have a credit card and need some quick cash, you might wonder if a cash advance is a good solution. And it might be!Cash advances allow you to take out money from an ATM through your credit card just like you would with a debit card. However, this isnt money that you already have in your checking or savings account, its money that you are borrowing and adding to your credit card balance.Since youre borrowing money when you take out a credit card cash advance, the whole thing is really just another type of loan. And when taking out a loan, you’ll have to figure out the interest and fees that youll be paying back on top of that amount you borrowed.Basically, this means figuring out how much your cash advance is going to cost you. Do you know how much a cash advance on your credit card would cost? If youre faced with an emerge ncy expense, knowing this info ahead of time will help you make the right financial decision.First step, figure out the APR.Aside from payment dates, one of the most important aspects of a loan is its APR. APR stands for annual percentage rate, and it’s a number that allows you to make an “apples-to-apples” comparison between different types loans and credit cards. It measures how much a loan will cost over the course of a full year. With credit card APRs, specifically, its wise to account for how long a given balance will be outstanding. If a $1,000 balance with a 20 percent APR is outstanding for a full year, it will cost you $200 in interest. However, if you pay that $1,000 balance off immediately, you will pay much less. And with regular credit card transactions, you might not pay any interest at allâ€"but more on that in the next section. When it comes to credit card cash advances, however, APR might actually  not  account for the full cost of the loan. While APR for loans and credit cards take into account origination charges and annual fees, they do not account for the additional fees youll pay on a cash advance. In order to account for the true cost of your cash advance, youll need to take both into account. So how do the APRs on cash advances look?Credit card cash advances have much higher APRs than regular purchases.According to this 2017 article in the New York Times, the average APR for a credit card cash advance is 23.68 percent. To give that number some context, it’s almost eight percent higher than the average interest rate for standard credit card transactions. And remember, that APR  doesnt  take into account the fee youll have to pay in order to take out your cash advance. According to that same report, the average cash advance fee is $10 or 5 percent of the amount withdrawn, whichever is higher. If you added 5 percent onto that standard APR, youd get a true cost of almost 30 percent! With credit card cash advances, there are no grace peri ods.Remember when we mentioned that you could avoid paying  any  interest on credit card purchases? Thats because they come with 30-day grace period between when the purchase is made and when interest starts accruing on that balance. So if you pay your credit card bill in full before that grace period is up, you won’t have to pay any interest beyond the price of what you actually purchased. It’s why, whenever possible, you should pay off your entire credit card bill every month instead of just making the minimum payment. Trust us, your credit score will thank you. However, credit card cash advances do not have a grace period, so that higher interest rate will start accumulating as soon as you get your cash.  While its impossible to get a credit card cash advance for free, youll still want to pay it off as  soon as possible  in order to minimize the total cost. The average APR for a payday cash advance is over 300 percent.  So that covers the kind of cash advance you can get with yo ur credit card, but what about the other  type of cash advance loans? The kinds you may have seen ads for online or in storefronts? Well, whether you get one of these as an online loan or as cash from your local currency exchange, these are a type of bad credit loan. Basically, theyre  payday loansâ€"they give you an advance on your next paycheckâ€"which means that the kinds of rates youll be dealing with are much higher. For example, some payday lenders will advertise themselves as offering cash advance loans. But unlike the APRs in the 20-30 percent  range  that you’d see with a credit card cash advance, these payday loans have average APRs above 300 percent! Thats 10 times the cost!It can be very hard to pay off a payday cash advance on time. The payment terms for payday cash advances also tend to be very short, usually around two weeks. If you can’t pay back the loan with all of its fees and interest in that time, you might have no choice but to roll the loan overâ€"paying ext ra money to extend the due dateâ€"or take out a new loan immediately after you pay the old one off.Rolling over or reborrowing these cash advance loans can quickly lead you into a cycle of debt, where you are always extending the loan without ever getting out from under it. This will be bad for your credit score and your finances in general. And unlike with credit cards, payday loans are no credit check loans, which means they won’t report your payments to the major credit bureaus. Even if you do pay off the loan in time, you won’t get proper credit for it. Literally. The APR on a credit card cash advance is likely to be higher than the rate for a traditional personal loan from a bank, but you may not qualify for a traditional bank loan depending what your credit score looks like. Taking out an advance on your card can be a reasonable option, though you’ll want to try to pay it back as quickly as possible to minimize the interest you’ll pay. One thing we can say for sure: the rates for credit card cash advances are  way  better than the rates for payday cash advance loans. To learn more about cash advances, check out these related posts and articles from OppLoans:Will a Cash Advance Show up on Your Credit Report?Saving Strategies to Avoid a High-Interest Cash Advance LoanYour Guide to Cash Advance ScamsIf you had an unforseen expense, how would pay for it?  We want to hear from you!  You can  email us  or you can find us on  Facebook  and  Twitter.Visit OppLoans on  YouTube  |  Facebook  |  Twitter  |  LinkedIN

The Scope Of The Adolescent Literacy Crisis - 2100 Words

According to the article The Scope of The Adolescent Literacy Crisis, reading and writing skills have not improved much in the last twenty years. High school graduates do not have the reading and writing skills necessary to find a job or thrive in a college writing class. (Heller, 2016) There are a number of strategies that can help students to learn and thrive in reading classes, one such strategy is linked text sets. Linked Text sets can help to motivate adolescent readers, especially when dealing with classical texts. A text set is defined as five to fifteen texts that relate conceptually in some way shape or form, for example, similar themes, text types, and so on. The purpose of a text set is to reflect different perspectives on the same concept. The teacher needs to consider various criteria in creating the text set. (Mathis, 2002) Using different types of texts helps students to better understand how all the texts are related, which helps them in return to understand the theme, text type, etc. Using Linked Text sets help students to see and understand classical books in a way they did not think about. Racial Discrimination is Not Necessary - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 3 Words: 896 Downloads: 4 Date added: 2019/03/29 Category Society Essay Level High school Tags: Discrimination Essay Did you like this example? Over many years racial profiling has been a huge issue that has affected many peoples lives. Racial Profiling isnt necessary, nobody can tell by the way someone looks or dresses that they are a about to steal something from a store or if they are rich or not. You may be talking to the richest man in the world and think he is homeless based off of your expectations of what you believe successful people should wear. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Racial Discrimination is Not Necessary" essay for you Create order An example of racial profiling is when an officer of law targets an individual not on their behavior, but rather their personal characteristics, such as race, ethnicity, national origin and religion. Cites have proven that Hispanics, Mexicans, and Latin Americans do not only face discrimination on the roadways but also in areas of immigration law enforcement due to past incidents in America with people of their ethnicity. In Tim Soutphommasanes article Stopping racism is everyones responsibility he says Its not just about racial superiority. Racism refers to prejudice, discrimination or hatred directed at someone because of their race. It is something that creates disadvantages for some, and confers privileges on to others. White people dont know the background of colored peoples lives, for they may have been been mentally abused or even beaten in their past for being the race they are and even the smallest racial things they do or say could put all that pain right back on them which could create bad habits or a lack of self-care. Lyrics from songs can show how a person feels and it can let out how the person feels, whether or not they are depressed or not, whats going on in their lives, etc. An example from an article of a musician showing his feelings is a famous rapper named Tupac Shakur. One of his most famous songs, Changes, shows his perspective on the way the world was, which still is. In the first two lines of his song I see no changes wake up in the morning and I ask myself is life worth living should I blast myself? Tupac Shakur showed his emotions and thoughts of suicide due to the way the world he lived in was which was a very dark time in his life. Both these quotes one from 30 years ago and one a few years ago have showed that not much has changed over the years because colored people still feel the same way which can lead to depression and many disadvantages. Racial discrimination is a very serious problem that people face in their everyday lives. People do discriminate others which their actions may not be intentional but due to their lack of caring and understanding not even realize they are discriminating the person at all. In the article Jim Crow Policing by Bob Herbert he says People going about their daily business, bothering no one, are menaced out if the blue by the police, forced to spread themselves faced down in the street, or plaster themselves against a wall, or bend over the hood of a car, to be searched. A lot of police officers are very stereotypical on colored people and feel the need to suspect them even if theyre just wearing shorts with sandals, basically saying that you look like a criminal because you are colored and wearing what a normal non-colored person would wear. Not only do these police officers disrespect these people, but they are violating their time and privacy. Just because colored people in the past had a high crime rate doesnt mean all colored people are criminals and it is disgusting that many people think like that. White racist men and women need to recognize that they are no different than colored people. The color of ones skin does not define who they are, their actions do. A colored woman named Hermeisha Robinson, from Missouri applied for a customer service position at a company called Mentality Health through a listing from job listing site Indeed.com. After submitting her application, Robinson received an emailed response, purporting to be from a company employee, that stated: Thank you for your interest in careers at Mantality Health. Unfortunately, we do not consider candidates that have suggestive ghetto names. The company claims a hacker sent the email but it doesnt change the fact that it was sent. How would you feel if this same scenario happened to you? Wouldnt you also think that it is very disrespectful and take action about this situation that happened to you or would you not care and let it go by? The sad thing is many people do let it go by and not take action because they dont think it is important or theyre just used to it. Nobody deserves to be treated the way Hermeisha Robinson was treated and you need to fight against racism to help prevent something like this from happening again. Racial discrimination is not necessary and does not need to be used in any situation. Discrimination has affected many peoples lives and it has made them think down and be ashamed of themselves for being colored. People can only handle so much before they burst and if a racist white man keeps telling a colored man hes worthless and a bad person, then one day he will potentially break and become what that racist white man was telling him.

Plato on Education as the Development of Reason Essay

Plato on Education as the Development of Reason ABSTRACT: Socrates great educational innovation was in ascribing moral worth to the intellectual activity reflectively directed at ones own life. His concept of eudaimonia was so different from the ordinary that talking about it took on sometimes a paradoxical air, as in Apology 30b3. For him, reason is not a tool for attaining goals independently thought worthwhile; rather, rationality itself, expressed in the giving of reasons and the avoidance of contradictions, confers value to goals and opinions. Persons are reasonable, but obviously not the empirical human being. But education is aimed at the empirical man or woman and inevitably employs psychological means. How then is it†¦show more content†¦The novelty was not his turning towards man; in this he was but a child of the sophistic revolution. Nor was it his recognition of the moral value of inquiry, as the pythagoreans had already done before him. (1) His innovation was in the combination of these two trends: in ascrib ing moral worth to the intellectual activity reflectively directed at ones own life. The worthwhile activity for man was, as he saw it, each ones critical examination of his own actions and opinions and their implicit assumptions. This inquiry had no pragmatic aim or utility beyond itself. It did not teach how best to manage the affairs of the household and of the city (Protagoras 318e5-319a1). On the contrary, it was itself the care of the soul, independently of its pragmatic consequences, sometimes even in spite of them. Socrates concept of eudaimonia, of happiness-and-success, was so different from the ordinary concept, that his talking about it took on sometimes a paradoxical air: It is not from possessions that excellence comes to men but by excellence possessions and all the rest come to be good for men (Apology 30b3). (2) Socrates learned from Protagoras and Gorgias the supreme importance of persuasion. Men are moved to action not by things as they are, but by their own opinions and convictions. Yet, unlike the sophists and the rhetors, Socrates considered persuasion in itself irrelevant — evenShow MoreRelatedQuestions On World Philosophy By Plato, Maria Montessori, And John Dewey1276 Words   |  6 PagesPaper Mikala: I ask you this, what is Knowledge? Jan Vermeer Essay Example For Students

Jan Vermeer Essay Rebecca KeenArtVermeer ReportJan Vermeer was born in Delft, Holland, on October 31, 1632. He was the son of a silk weaver and tavern owner, Reynier Vermeer, who sold art as well as beer. This being a very common combination of wares for 17th century Holland. Jan Vermeer is sometimes referred to as Jan van der Meer van Delft to distinguish him from other Dutch painters. It is believed that Vermeer served an apprenticeship under Carol Fabritius, a pupil of Rembrandts, as well as a prominent Dutch painter of the times. 1653 was an excellent year for Vermeer. He was admitted to the Guild of Saint Luke of Delft, a trade association of artists, as a master artist. At this time, he also married Catherina Bolnes, the daughter of Maria Thins. Jan and Catherina ran Raynier Vermeers tavern following his death in 1655. Together they had eight children and a content life. Jan still painted in his spare time away from the tavern. Unfortunately, there was rarely enough spare time to go around. Most of it was used up trying to make ends meet. Vermeer was worried by financial matters and problemd throughout his brief life. One of Vermeers dreams was fulfilled when he was chosen as a member of the Board of Saint Lukes Guild. The same dream was realized yet again when he served yet another term on the board. Vermeers paintings are carefully designed with figures and furniture, featuring wonderful usage of light and realistic color schemes. Perhaps no artist until Vermeer perceived natural light and color with such absolute awareness. Vermeer observed that not everything a person views in a room or interior scene is in equal focus and clarity. He also made use of the fact that colors from objects are reflected upon other objects or areas of a room. He employed a soft palette of blues, golds, and soft reds to achieve the dream-like plays of light. He recorded the effects of light with a subtlety, delicacy, and a purity of color that has probably not been surpassed. Vermeer often touched on deeper subjects and meanings in his works. In A Woman Weighing Gold, Vermeer shows a painting in the background of Christ weighing souls on Judgement Day. The woman in the foreground weighing pearls and gold brings new significance to the picture by showing the absolute meaninglessness of earthly material possessions. Most of Vermeers works portray a single female figure quietly occupied at a feminine or domestic task. These tasks are usually something like lace-making, reading, pouring beverages, writing, or playing musical instruments. Two figures appear in these works occasionally, and their relationship appears to be one of utter silence. Vermeers compositions seem relatively simple , but they are quite detailed and intricately laid out. Careful analysis of his works show interlocking rectabgles filling up the surface with volumes rounded by silvery light coming from the side. Vermeer turned the world into a huge geometric pattern where people appear to be delicate objects occupying space. Vermeer was a master of composition and of representation of space. His arrangement of neutral, muted hues, provides natural perspective in his works. Vermeer excelled in his interior works of art, and apparently he realized this. There are only 2 to 3 works that Vermeer is known to have done of outdoor scenes. In his indoor works, he arranged tonal values and perspective over the foreground, into the middleground, and farther into the distance. On December 15, 1675, Vermeer passed away at the shockingly young age of 43, just five short years before the death of his mother-in-law, Maria Thins. Vermeers untimely demise left his wife, Catherina, in severe financial debt. She was forced to sell some of his paintings to cover expenses they had acquired. Anton van Leeuwenhoek, the worls famous microscopist, was named the trustee of the small Vermeer estate. .u0c444bd2a3ec66bf077bc7220b66b465 , .u0c444bd2a3ec66bf077bc7220b66b465 .postImageUrl , .u0c444bd2a3ec66bf077bc7220b66b465 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u0c444bd2a3ec66bf077bc7220b66b465 , .u0c444bd2a3ec66bf077bc7220b66b465:hover , .u0c444bd2a3ec66bf077bc7220b66b465:visited , .u0c444bd2a3ec66bf077bc7220b66b465:active { border:0!important; } .u0c444bd2a3ec66bf077bc7220b66b465 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u0c444bd2a3ec66bf077bc7220b66b465 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u0c444bd2a3ec66bf077bc7220b66b465:active , .u0c444bd2a3ec66bf077bc7220b66b465:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u0c444bd2a3ec66bf077bc7220b66b465 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u0c444bd2a3ec66bf077bc7220b66b465 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u0c444bd2a3ec66bf077bc7220b66b465 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u0c444bd2a3ec66bf077bc7220b66b465 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u0c444bd2a3ec66bf077bc7220b66b465:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u0c444bd2a3ec66bf077bc7220b66b465 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u0c444bd2a3ec66bf077bc7220b66b465 .u0c444bd2a3ec66bf077bc7220b66b465-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u0c444bd2a3ec66bf077bc7220b66b465:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Metamorphosis By Franz Kafka EssayJan Vermeer was virtually forgotten following his death. The most important contribution is the debut of a Spatial Transformer module. There are a couple of excellent resources that could teach you RL but practical examples devoted to data science are limited. Maybe you are creating a traffic app for your city but there isn't any established dataset. Definitions of Research Papers on Deep Learning Machine learning skills are a few of the most valuable in Silicon Valley today and that is going to stay true for a long time to come. Other individuals incorporate a deep mixture of GANs and other optimal transforms. In reality, more recent methods like one-shot learning can be utilized to effectively reason based on past understanding, but they're st ill limited in regard to generalizability and learning from rare events. In the past few decades, deep multi-agent reinforcement learning (RL) has come to be an extremely active field of research. Even if your writing or math skills are rusty, you will realize that your real life experience will compensate for what you've forgotten. Life Factors free essay sample

It is caused by a faulty gene that controls the movement of salt and water in and out of the cells within the body. Cystic Fibrosis affects the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system, by clogging them with thick sticky mucus. This makes it hard to breathe and digest food. If two carriers have a child, the baby has a 1 in 4 chance of having Cystic Fibrosis. Each week, five babies are born with Cystic Fibrosis and each week, two young lives are lost to Cystic Fibrosis. A the moment half of the CF population will live past 41 years of age, and improvements in treatments mean a baby born today is expected to live even longer. Cystic fibrosis is transferred from the parents through genes. Caucasians (white European) are more common to be a carrier of CF. There is three types of screening for Cystic Fibrosis: newborn screening, carrier testing and antenatal testing. We will write a custom essay sample on Life Factors or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page New born testing The test is a heel-prick to sample blood as part of the normal Guthrie test carried out on all children. The sooner CF is diagnosed, the sooner appropriate treatment can begin. Carrier Testing They will take a simple mouthwash to determine if you are a carrier. This is important if a relative has CF or is a known carrier. It is very important to have the test if one of the partners is a known carrier. Antenatal Testing This test is used early in pregnancy to tell whether a baby has Cystic Fibrosis. It is normally offered to mothers who are recognised as being at a high risk of having a child with Cystic Fibrosis. Implications are miscarriage and premature labour. Other tests Other tests for Cystic Fibrosis are the sweat test (people with CF have more salt in their sweat, which can be detected) or a genetic test, which is a swab taken by gently rubbing the inside of the cheek to check for the search of the faulty CF gene. Cystic Fibrosis is an unpredictable life event, because there is still the chance of a child with a gene defected mother to come out totally healthy. Cystic Fibrosis will affect a person in various life events. Cystic fibrosis causes a build of thick mucus in the lungs and when the thick mucus builds up, it gets stuck in the airways, which causes problems. When this happens: * Breathing passageways become blocked and air can’t get through. * The lungs, nose and sinuses will get infected because of the growth of bacteria in the mucus collection. In some CF patients nasal polyps may develop. Reproductive Organs Cystic fibrosis affects the reproductive organs of men and women differently. Men: are almost always infertile because the thick secretions in the sperm canal cause a blockage that prevents sperm from getting through. Women: are often able to conceive but may have decreased fertility because of thick cervical mucus blocking the entry of sperm. Loneliness – When som eone can’t do the same things that their friends are doing, go to the same places, and they have overprotective parents, it can take a toll on somebody. Many parents, in an attempt to protect their children from the outside world, keep their children inside the house and in their direct supervision at all times. While doing this it is understandable that the parents are just trying to keep their kids healthy, it can make the cystic fibrosis sufferer feel alone. Parents should make sure that their children have fun but safe activities to do with their friends. They can’t keep them locked up forever. Growth – Children that have cystic fibrosis are not going to grow as fast as their peers, and that can make them feel inadequate. While everybody else begins to grow in height during puberty, for a CF patient the growth spurt can come several years later, if at all. Many children will feel embarrassed about this, and the other kids at school are not going to make things any easier. Classmates that are unaware that somebody has this disease can often be cruel and teasing and bullying may occur. Hospital – Cystic fibrosis can often force children to spend several weeks in the hospital if complications occur. When this happens, the patient will be missing a good portion of schoolwork and time with their friends. Luckily, sometimes there are teachers that go to hospitals to teach those that are missing time from school, but that does not always happen. Not being able to live a normal life can cause cystic fibrosis patients to worry about their futures and wonder how they are going to be able to hold down a job. Teens with CF report being depressed for many reasons. Feeling physically unwell, being frustrated by the challenges of endless daily treatments, experiencing negative side effects from medications, missing major life events (sports, parties, concerts, proms) due to hospitalizations, and feeling different from their peers. Teens with CF are more prone to anxiety and depression, and a lack of sleep can worsen the situation. Few teenagers achieve the recommended nine hours of sleep each night, and because of the CF, their sleep may be regularly disrupted because of their medications and coughing. In addition to putting them at greater risk of infection, the lack of sleep can lead to dramatic mood swings. Adolescence is a time of experimentation, and this may include many things: new hair colors, body piercings, styles of dress, drug and alcohol use, and sexual activity. Just because some suffers of CF it doesn’t mean that they are immune to the pressures of the above experimentation. Unfortunately, the physical and emotional impact of this experimentation can sometimes be much harder for teens with CF. Sometimes peer pressure is not the issue. Teens with CF have said they use alcohol or drugs to self medicate due to depression and anxiety, and to seek a temporary relief from the challenges of the disease. Depression also contributes to self-harm, namely â€Å"cutting,† as well as eating disorders. Biological: Of, relating to, caused by, or affecting life or living organisms: biological processes such as growth and digestion. Is related by blood or genetic lineage, i. e. mother gives birth to her biological child. Foetal Alcohol Syndrome Foetal Alcohol Syndrome is a predictable life event, because you can’t for sure be certain that the child will have that defect after the mother consumed alcohol When a woman drinks alcohol during pregnancy she risks giving birth to a child who will have mental and physical deficiencies, for his or her entire life. Yet many pregnant women do drink alcohol. Signs and Symptoms: * low birth weight * small head circumference * failure to thrive * developmental delay * organ dysfunction * facial abnormalities, including smaller eye openings, flattened cheekbones, and indistinct philtrum (an underdeveloped groove between the nose and the upper lip) * epilepsy * poor coordination/fine motor skills * poor socialization skills, such as difficulty building and maintaining friendships and relating to groups * lack of imagination or curiosity learning difficulties, including poor memory, inability to understand concepts such as time and money, poor language comprehension, poor problem-solving skills * behavioral problems, including hyperactivity, inability to concentrate, social withdrawal, stubbornness, impulsiveness, and anxiety At birth, an alcohol-affected baby may suffer withdrawal from alcohol and any other drugs the mother uses. This is known as neonatal abstinence syndrome. The baby may also have either poor muscle tone (a floppy baby) or rigid muscle tone. Infants with FAS/E may have trouble with sleeping and with sucking and swallowing. There are some behavioral patterns that are associated very often with FAS. A good example is that of an â€Å"attachment disorder. † An attachment disorder is a complex problem that occurs in children who have not had the opportunity to form a close and trusting relationship to an adult in the way children usually do. Some of the characteristics include overly â€Å"friendly† behavior, running away, and withdrawal from caregivers. Because many children with FAS spend time in difficult environments, or have multiple placements, many of them develop attachment disorders. Children and adolescent with FAS may be developmentally delayed, have mental retardation or have problems with specific learning differences or disabilities. These conditions are often associated with social, emotional, behavioral, and academic problems. When these and other facts are not identified early in life, children may be viewed as being deliberately â€Å"bad† or having â€Å"emotional† problems when, in fact, they are unable to act in ways that caregivers ask them of. Environmental: It relates to the natural world and the impact of human activity on its condition. Pollution: Pollution is unpredictable because not every area will be as polluted as others. The air obviously won’t be a 100% clean no matter where people go but in some areas there will be more pollution because there is a motorway in the area which produces a lot of fumes and toxins. On the other hand if people live in villages where there is just really space to live for example 200 people the pollution will be minimized because there are not as many people that can pollute the air. The environment plays a very important role in a person? s development through life. There are a few physical effects pollution can have on an individual. Pollution, in its many forms, can have immediate and long-terms effects on the bodys systems and the overall health. Exposure to pollution also affects an individual quality of life, and can increase the risk of certain chronic diseases. The physical effects of pollution on some one? s health depend on the type of pollution to which they are most frequently exposed, including air, water or noise pollution. Short-term physical health effects of air pollution include the following: eye, nose and throat irritation, upper respiratory infectionsincluding bronchitis and pneumoniaheadaches, nausea, allergic reactions and xacerbation of medical conditions, such as emphysema and asthma. Long-term physical health effects of air pollution may include chronic respiratory disease, lung cancer and heart disease. Long-term exposure to air pollution may even cause damage to your brain, nerves, liver or kidneys. Pollution can leave someone highly depressed and anxious, which can lead to tiredness, sw eating, headaches, loss of appetite or overeating. People get frustrated because they don’t know what to do against the pollution. People will avoid going out, so that they don’t inhale the toxic fumes, which will decrease their social activities. They might fall out with friends because they are always declining invitations. Others will be depressed and feel less worthy of living opportunities. Socioeconomic: This is a combination of social and economic factors. Like social are friends and partners, and economic is about money, living conditions and etc. Education Education is predictable, because the law in the UK says that every child needs to be educated for at least 18 years. Education is very important in an individual’s development. It teaches us how to count, read, write and socialize. It prepares us for our future choices we want to take and helps us get there. When children start school they can be quiet nervous and upset because of the new people they will meet. They will make new friends and start socializing with different kind of other children. There cognitive skills will improve and there vocabulary will grow day by day. Education will give them an awareness on how the world functions and that the world and people are not perfect, and sometimes don’t are like they seem. It will make people feel good when they finished their education and can now start the job they wanted to do. Some children will get quiet attached to their teachers and that can be very upsetting for them when they change schools. Starting education might as well mean that they need to move because the travelling distance to even the nearest school might be too far. Parents can get quiet stressed because it is a major change in their routine as well to bring the children into school every morning. The parents will need to help with homework and will need to attend parents evenings which can be long and boring sometimes. People might be failing there education which can lead to epression and anxiety that they won’t get a job with their current education. Parents will be disappointed in them and might even put a heavier strain on them, which can bring them to breaking point. Marriage: Marriage is predictable because almost every person will want to marry in future and have children. Marriage is a very good way to understand how others might feel, because marriage means compromise. Peop le that are married can have joy and happiness in their life, spending it with someone else. Marriage can raise peoples confident and self-image in various ways. It will build a mutual understanding of the other person and make people stronger and believe in themselves. If a person is going through a rough time, the partner which they are married to can be there supportive foundation which gives them strength to face the problem and deal with in a healthy way. Being married can as well help in financial situations because both parties will put their income into the household to keep it going. On the other hand marriage can be stressful and painful, because of financial issues, differences between the two partner’s families, arguments and etc. To be married can be really hard on some people which can lower their self-esteem and confidence. If as well partners are always arguing they will feel unloved by their partner and this will lower there self-image because they will feel unloved. Having children can have a strain on a marriage as well because of the stress the parents will be under because of lack of sleep and rest. That’s the reason that before people marry they should have built a strong foundation on which there marriage can stand no matter what comes there way. Unpredictable- Death of family member: The death of a family member can be devastating for a family. It can leave the family unit broken and in despair due to the loss of a loved one. However it can make you a stronger family unit because the family will support and unite with each other through this difficult time. People will get depressed which can develop to clinical depression which can be life threatening for the person. People could have suicide thoughts because they want to be with the family member that past away. Some people will isolate themselves from society and family, because they don’t want to talk to anyone or because they think that they can’t be happy or can’t laugh after what happened. This can ruin families that have been really close before the death of the family member. There could be arguments about the heritage and who gets the money or â€Å"who should† get the money from the diseased family member. It will strip people’s happiness and will shatter their self- esteem and confidence. Some people might get really angry and defensive at everything people say and might have outbursts of different emotions. The family might start struggling with their finances because the person that died was the primary income provider. And that will cause a lot of extra stress on the family which can make it fall apart. And in some countries education is not free and people have to pay a big amount to send their children to school, and if they don’t have any money the children will stay uneducated. People might not be able to from new relationships because they fear that that person will leave and they will be in pain again. Because people will be worried about their other loved ones dying which can make them very overprotective and make the family feel suffocated. This can have a really bad affect because people will try to avoid that person because f there clinginess. Lifestyle Lifestyle plays a delicate role in the development of individuals and as well on individual’s life expectancy. People that choose to smoke harm themselves physically and mentally. Smoking does not have any benefits the only thing it does is destroy some one’s life. Smoking affects not just smokers but as well people around them (passive smoker). Organs that get affected the most are: Lungs: Smoking is the wide most spread reason for impaired lungs. Long exposure to the smoke will paralyze and disable the lungs to clean the respiratory system. Smoke from cigarettes; generate harmful chemicals such as tar. This chokes the alveoli and tissues in the respiratory track. It leads in the production of mucus, which in turn assists the microorganisms to thrive. Strong smokers will more likely get flu, cough and cold, bronchitis, cancer, emphysema, and various other deadly respiratory illnesses. Heart: Smoking is as well fatal for the heart. A smoker’s heart will beat faster and harder, in time of high stress and depression. The damage is similar to a person having high cholesterol. As the heart beats fast, it results in high blood pressure. Mouth and Nose: Smokers will gradually lose the ability to smell and taste. There are high chances of smokers getting mouth and gum cancer which can affect someone’s life in a really bad way. The worst effect smoking can have on someone is a breakdown of jaws and tongue, which will leave the person not able to talk and communicate effectively. Skin: Smoking squeezes and restricts the blood vessels to the skin. It as well lowers the rate of the blood flow to different parts of the body. A smoker’s skin is very likely to start wrinkling earlier then suppose too. Smoke as well doesn’t smell pleasant so friends might try to avoid their friends that are smoking because they don’t want to passive smoke and as well find the smell disturbing. Smoking is banned in almost every indoor space so smokers would always have to leave the room to have a cigarette. For the individual it might be very hard to give up that bad habit and it will make them feel frustrated with themselves and depressed. It as well is an expensive habit, so money goes out of the window to. It will put a strain on the family dynamic because of the constant money output for expensive cigarettes.
